Robert

In this post, I will provide a detailed explanation of the hero Robert, covering how to obtain him, upgrade his skills and talent tree, and how to pair him with other heroes.

How to get Robert?

Similar to other heroes, you need to acquire 10 fragments. Robert is a roulette hero, which means you can acquire him only by playing the Lucky Roulette (and winning 10 fragments) during the Infantry Top Commander event. You can also buy daily boost packs once Robert is available at the daily boost section in the mall to obtain his 10 fragments.

Talent trees

Robert is an infantry squad hero and therefore best suited to lead infantry troops. His secondary talent trees are General and Skills. The build to use on Robert is to max out the Skills talent tree and using the remaining points in the Infantry tree. You can also use some points to max out the branch siege in the General tree if you’re planning to do a lot of siege. But in general, if you want to siege someone or a tower it’s better to use ranged heroes like Julia. My talent tree for Robert looks like this:

Skills

  1. His first skill is called Heartbreak Rock. It deals damage to a single target with a damage factor of 12,500 and reduces its HP by 25% for 2 seconds.
  2. His second skill is called Lucky Shield. It increases infantry ATK by 20% and when your squad has a shield, 16% of the damage are deflected to the enemy.
  3. His third skill is called Eternal Groove. When you use a basic attack, you have a 20% chance to create a shield on your squad and an allied squad for 2 sec. The shield factor can go up to 2400 and that shield can only be created once every 6 seconds. The 20% chance on a basic attack means you’ll have on average 2 shields every 3 rounds. One round is composed of 5-6 basic attacks plus the skill damage.
  4. His fourth skill is called Devil’s Disguise. This skill has 20% chance on a counter attack to burn an enemy for 3 seconds with a damage factor of 1,200. As a reminder, a counter attack happens for each basic attack. If 2 squads attack your squad, your squad will generate 2 counter attacks. Again a 20% chance on a counter attack means that this skill can happen twice over 3 rounds. And it can happen to every target attacking you, once every 6 seconds. That’s what I love about this skill.
  5. His awakening skill is called Blazing Passion. It’s a new skill and it increases the burning damage from the fourth skill by an additional 50% when the target has an HP reduction.

How to upgrade his skills?

For every combat hero, the first skill, the raging skill, needs to be upgraded first. I recommend upgrading the 2nd skill next, followed by the 3rd, and finally the 4th. The order would be 1, 2, 3, 4. When you start upgrading a skill, make sure you max it out before starting another one. The final level of a skill provides more bonuses compared to its initial levels. I would upgrade the 2nd skill because the 20% ATK bonus applies all the time, then the 3rd skill because 2 shield factor of 2,400 for 2 seconds (so a total of 9,600) is greater than the burning factor of 3,600 for one squad. People will unlikely focus your infantry squad. They will first target your ranged or your riders squads. So the chance to do more damage with the counter attack skill is lower than the benefit of the shield.

How to combine Robert?

I would always use Robert as the leader of the squad due to his Skills talent tree. You can pair him with any other infantry heroes such as Thunder, Tom, Adut, etc. However, the best hero to pair Robert with are heroes that can boost his damage, so we are looking for heroes having shield and HP reduction. So THE best assistant hero for Robert is Eddie. You can also use Raigoro or Riven to deflect more damage from the shield. But Eddie is the best because he can generate a shield and give HP debuff up to 3 enemy squads for 2 seconds when he is awaken.

You can also potentially use Robert as the assistant of the garrison captain. I find his 4th skill very useful to make damage on people swarming your shelter. You can use Raigoro/Robert or Riven/Robert.

Conclusion

Some people think Robert is not a great hero but I think the opposite. I underestimate this hero and I think he is a great hero to upgrade. You could use your legendary heroes on him if you want but some heroes are better to prioritize before him like Adut, Eddie, Thunder or Miyamoto.
